Veneer is sold in either bundles by the log or layons. Both of which are measured in square meters.
Bundles will generally compromise of 24 to 32 leaves of veneer. Generally, the widths of the leaves would vary form 100mm and upwards.
The South African market demands a veneer length of 2800mm to 3100mm, accordingly the veneer leaves are sold in such lengths.

It depends entirely on the species of veneer. Within species there can be a great deal of variance as every tree grows to different heights and widths. The number of bundles per log will also vary depending on the size of the tree. When ordering we would ask you how much square meter veneer you require. We will then select the veneer to match you requirements as closely as possible whilst minimising the wastage. We also manufacture veneer layons in a standard size of 2800mm X 1870mm.

The usual thickness for veneer is 0.5mm to 0.6mm. But this may vary from one species to another.
Veneer is generally sold by the log and accordingly will match. This is known as a “Layon”. Being a natural product there will always be a variance in the grain and colour from log to log. So if you need veneers in layon form which must match exactly, please specify the veneer to be log run matched.
Being a natural product, there will always be a variance in colour and grain from log to log. We can try to match to a similar colour or similar grain but there will be a variance (being from a different log). Due to the different digital representations of colour in photographs, it is usually best to send us an actual sample.
Some species darken whilst others fade and get lighter, especially when exposed to direct sunlight and can display significant colour changes.

A backer veneer is often called a “balance” veneer because it balances the board. Since you are adding a veneer layer to the face, you also need to add a veneer layer to the back side of the board to prevent warping.

There are many factors that influence the colour, grain and appearance of natural wood veneer so the picture you see on our website is a sample of that species of veneer. The veneer you receive can be slightly different in colour and grain appearance because each tree growing in nature is unique unto itself. Another reason for a difference in colour is that you are viewing a sample photo and the actual colours aren’t captured correctly.
This is where the grain of the veneer runs across the width (1830) of the board and not on the length (2750) of the board. When producing a cross grained layon the wastage is higher than your normal long grain layon therefore an add on surcharge of 33% applies.
We are able to upgrade the veneer onto Medium Density Fibre (MDF) board and Chipboard. Thicknesses of MDF board is available in 3mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, 16mm, 18mm, 22mm, and 30mm, whereas the chipboard is available in 9mm, 12mm, 16mm, 18mm, 22mm, and 32mm. All are subject to availability.
We are limited to the length of the veneer available, which is usually a maximum of 3100 millimetres. Therefore we can only press a 3050mm board in length subject to the availability of the raw board and veneer.
